The biennial Abacus Guernsey Charitable Foundation Ball taking place next month is on course to once again raise significant funds for charities in Guernsey.
The ball, a must on the calendar for many in Guernsey, always takes an exciting theme and this year is no different with sporting legends set to descend on Guernsey for the event.
Kenny Logan, Ally McCoist, Peter Scrivener and Keith Wood will be helping the company to raise money for the Wooden Spoon, the sport of rugby’s national charity for disadvantaged children on 16 September at Beau Sejour.
The F.A Cup will also be making an appearance on the night and renowned master of ceremonies Barry Williams will compere the evening.
The event is being run in conjunction with Kenny Logan’s testimonial after he announced his retirement in February and his intention to use his final season to raise funds for his chosen charities.
Pre-dinner drinks will be served in the concourse where guests will be treated to entertainment from Welsh Boys Aloud and guests can also try their hand at a selection of sporting activities and have their photograph taken with the F.A Cup before entering the dining ‘stadium’, complete with flood lights, via a ‘players’ tunnel’.
The celebrities will perform a cameo question & answer session giving the guests an opportunity to ask questions - no matter how delving!
Abacus Guernsey Charitable Foundation Chairman, Lisa Crawford, said: ‘The evening offers an exciting range of entertainment, including a live band and mobile nightclub. We hope our special auction will raise as much money as possible for the Wooden Spoon.’
Auction prizes include a round of golf with Kenny Logan and Lawrence Dallaglio, 10 tickets for the Scotland versus England game at Murrayfield with Peter Scrivener and a signed England World Cup jersey.
Although a national charity, all the money raised for the Wooden Spoon by the ball will stay on the island to be used by local children.
Miss Crawford is confident that the evening will raise a significant sum.
‘Abacus set up the charitable Foundation in 1999, to act as a ‘fast-reaction’ service to assist local charities and causes.'
‘Thanks to the generosity of guests at our previous charity balls we have already been able to donate sizeable sums to organisations such as The Guernsey Bowel Cancer Awareness Charity, Canine Partners for Independence, The Childrens Ward at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital and Vauvert School Playground Equipment Appeal.'
Tables of 10 are available at £60 a head. Anyone wishing to book a table at the Abacus Guernsey Charitable Foundation Ball can do so by contacting Claire Nicholls on +44 1481 732668
